Zina Kao grew up in Louisiana, but has lived in California for the past twenty years and feels “perfectly at home” there. Her favorite food is her mother’s cooking, but when that’s not available Zina enjoys “the huge variety of great California cuisine in Oakland.” With two kids, one husband, and one business, Zina’s sweetest indulgence is the peace of her 6am workout. When she is at her jewelry bench, however, she enjoys listening to NPR and classic music from the 1940s and 1950s.
Zina began making jewelry more than 10 years ago, when she found she couldn’t afford the jewelry she wanted and decided to create it herself. Now her favorite part of making jewelry is taking “a piece of metal that is flat and dull, then turning it into "something”—from 2D to 3D with just a few tools and techniques!” When asked about her jewelry’s style, Zina says it is “classic, but not boring. We take care to have that right.”
