About
The European Cut diamond was the diamond of choice during the turn of the 20th century. In the late 19th century, a diamond cutter named Henry Morse invented a steam-driven bruting machine (bruting is a critical part in the diamond cutting process) that revolutionized the industry. The machine enabled the diamond cutter to shape symmetrical, rounded stones much more easily than could be fashioned with the hand and foot-powered machines. The round, perfectly symmetrical diamond, like this European Cut diamond, came to exemplify the perfect gem. European Cut diamonds have a round girdle, large table, high crown, deep geometric pavilion, and open culet.
